2003 Saleen S7

7 Things You Should Know Before The S7 IPO

All-American… The Saleen S7 is unique for many reasons. In a class of supercars, it stands almost alone as one of the pure American muscle cars. Debuting in 2000, this vehicle was produced and made in Irvine, California.

Extremely Unique… Introduced in August 2000 at the Monterey Races in California, the S7 began as a moonshot project that was completed in just 18 months, relatively unheard-of in terms of development and R&D. Designed to flat out beat the best sports cars in the world, the S7 was a union of design and engineering with Steve Saleen's own personal flair thrown in for good measure.

“Power in the hands of a few”... There is no doubt that this iconic vehicle is as rare as it gets. The Saleen company motto “power in the hands of a few” says it well.  Motor1 lists a total of 1,500 Saleen S7s in the world, while Jalopnik contends this figure to be less than 100. Who’s counting? We know that value comes from scarcity, and the low number of S7's out there is testament to its value.

• Look Familiar?… Despite limited production runs and a low number of vehicles worldwide, this car has been featured in films, TV shows, and video games for years. To name a few: Bruce Almighty, Iron Man, Need for Speed, and dare we say Alvin and the Chipmunks.

3.3 seconds… Now this might not sell out as fast as it’s ~3.3 second 0-60 speed, but we do expect this to go quick. The last three IPO's on Rally have sold out with an average time of 3 minutes.  The 3,000 shares being offered is low numerically relative to other high-ticket items on Rally such as the similarly priced Ferrari 512 and Ford GT, both of which IPO’d with 5,000 shares.

Pricey… The base price of the Saleen S7 from 2003 was $400,000.  Good news for the investor today, however, the S7 seems to be headed toward becoming a classic, with prices on the up-and-up. In 2016, a ’03 S7 went for $451,000. In 2019, Sotheby's sold a used 2005 S7 Twin Turbo for $643,000.  Not to mention, a relaunch of the S7 has been rumored to be coming with a set price of upwards of $1 Million.

• In Good Company… The Saleen S7 is set to be the fifth most valuable Car to IPO on Rally behind the Lamborghini Countach Turbo ($635,000), Lamborghini Diablo SE30 JOTA ($597,500), Jaguar XJ220 ($495,000), and Porsche 356 Speedster ($425,000) – thanks, Altan Asset Table. This supercar group has traded lower overall, averaging down 14.65% since IPO. The only other American made supercar to IPO on Rally over $250,000 was the Ford GT, which has since traded up 1.6%. The broader group of all-American made cars on Rally has traded up 19.1% on average. The IPO is currently 16% funded by those with early access.
